This month, and every month, VNA Healthtrends is proud to recognize our invaluable employees and the outstanding work they do. Day and night, our nurses, private care staff and therapists work tirelessly to improve the lives of our patients, and we celebrate their hard work and dedication.
November marks the beginning of the holiday season, a time when family and friends gather, but it is also a challenging time for those who struggle with physical impediments. Fortunately, home health allows patients to receive the care they need in the comfort of their own homes while enjoying the warmth of the holidays with loved ones.
Of course, this time of the year is not the only time many choose home healthcare as their preferred type of rehabilitation service. According to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), 89 percent of people age 50 and older say they prefer to remain in their home indefinitely as they age. This is likely because recovering in the comfort of one’s own home has been proven to help patients recuperate faster. Financially, it is the more cost effective option because a faster recuperation time translates to less time under specialized care.
A primary reason why our patients succeed under our care is due to our highly skilled, dedicated and personable nurses and therapists who begin working with patients as soon as they return home. This is crucial for the dialogue that begins at the initial visit, which allows for patients to disclose their precise goals. Not only does this facilitate trusting and effective relationships, but therapists can offer condition-specific programs that help lower avoidable rehospitalization rates.
Our employees’ devotion to their patients never goes unnoticed, and patient Eugene C. Schultz praises the extraordinary nursing care he received following a surgical procedure. Schultz writes that he firmly believes his rapid recovery is due in part to VNA RN Jay and also says that, “he exemplified the highest degree in the nursing profession during his care for me….when we experienced an unforeseen problem, he responded quickly and would return to ensure the problem was corrected. It meant a great deal to me to have total confidence in Jay.”
Another patient, Ann Kowalyszyn, who received care from VNA physical therapist and therapy educator, Vic, describes him as extremely knowledgeable about the muscles in the body, including how they should function and heal. She says that each day with Vic she felt a little better and that his therapy was so effective because he pushed her even further than she could on her own—to the point that she was amazed by her progress.
